Getting Around in Side
As always, any holiday trip will make you ponder on how to get around the places you want to go. Obviously, the first step of getting around is getting from the airport (in most cases which involve flying) to where you are staying throughout the period of your vacation.
For the case of Side, Turkey, this can be easily arranged. Generally, the distance from the Antalya airport to Side is roughly 60 to 70 kilometers. This means either a 2 hour ride from Antalya to Side via shuttle transfer which will cost you around 16 or 17 euros one way or a ride almost half the time in taxi which will cost roughly 50 euros for the rental of the whole taxi. Minibuses and coaches are also available as a mode of transport from the airport for those who visit in large crowds. There is transportation service for everyone from the airport no matter how big the crowd and prices are all set reasonably to give your Turkish holiday a great kick start.
If you find yourself staying in the old town of Side, getting around is no problem at all. This is because almost all the sights to see and beaches to go are all within walking distance. Of course, taxis and car rentals are available should you want to bring out the adventurer in you. Also, you can board on one of many tour buses in Side which stop at all the Side landmarks and must-see sites, most of which include ruins and structures left behind by the Roman Empire.
Boat rides are popular in Side especially in the beautiful region of Manavgat where routes normally start. This place is home to possibly the most stunning waterfall in Turkey; the Manavgat falls and be sure to catch a glimpse of it if you find yourself taking a boat ride within the area. A boat ride starting here would bring you to the falls for sure and will continue to head up to a stop at the river mouth where you will be allowed to enjoy a dip in either fresh or saltwater. The boat will then go all the way to the main harbours on the coast of Side. You can either choose to board on the huge boats which can carry up to a hundred people which may be a little bit crammed but makes up for it by providing a cheery atmosphere for its passengers. This may cost around 2 to 3 euros but spend a little bit more, maybe around 10 to 12 euros and you can find yourself on a smaller but more private boat which carries significantly less people and provide you barbeque lunches as part of the ride.
Overall, Side isn't really vast and can be explored easily whether on foot, by land vehicle or by water. All it takes is the time in which you will soak up the Mediterranean sun and the beauties of what's left behind by the ancient Greeks.
